Houston Museum of Natural Science Celebrates 175th Independence Anniversary of Texas With an Exhibit

A Houston science museum is celebrating Texas' 175th anniversary of independence from Mexico with an exhibit that gives visitors a glimpse of the region from the beginning of the Spanish exploration through the 20th century. This exhibit opened on the 6th of March, Sunday, on the 175th anniversary of the termination of the Battle of the Alamo, at the Museum of Natural Science. The exhibition will run through early September at the science museum.
Apart from a miniature portrait of Sam Houston on ivory and currency dating from Spanish governance to the last days of the Republic of Texas, the exhibit at the natural science museum showcases above 100 items from the collection of oilman J.P. Bryan, the exhibits guest curator. The Houston Chronicle reports that firearms from Bryan's collection will also be on show at the natural science museum.
